The Farmers' Market in Fredericton pre-dates the city's founding. In 1785 area residents petitioned the governor of the day to create a townsite - a prerequisite for holding a market. The Boyce Market building was constructed in 1951. A bequest of $40,000 from the estate of Walter W. Boyce, a prominent local businessman, got the project off the ground. The York County Council paid the rest of the construction costs. The Market expanded in November of 1990 and now has facilities for 217 stalls. |
